So You Want To Be A Storyteller Empty Game Layout Suggestions

Post by Ac1ds0ld13r Sun Apr 12, 2009 2:10 am

Okay, a quick vocabulary lesson before we continue:

Categories are the top level of the site. They contain many forums.
Forums are the next level down. They contain many Topics.
Topics are individual threads and contain posts.

All Posts are attached to a Topic and all Topics are attached to a Forum, but not all Forums are attached to a Category. An example of this is the General Chat. On the main page it looks like any other Category, however its only a Forum. There can be no full forums attached to it, only topics consisting of their posts.

All games are Categories. Games consist of a few required Forums: A Mandatory Reading one (which will contain all the rules information your players need) and an In Character one (for all gaming). Beyond that, its up to you. No game will exceed 1 Category, and some games (those intentionally kept small) will only be a Forum.

So You Want To Be A Storyteller Empty So You Want To Be A Storyteller

Post by Ac1ds0ld13r Sun Apr 12, 2009 1:05 am

This thread is all about what it takes to be a Storyteller on this site, not just in one of our games. Please read this thread before submitting any requests to Ac1ds0ld13r for a game. There is information I'll need from you before I give you a game, and this information is important. There is also a format we require to help ease navigation through the site for everyone. Thank you.

First thing is first. I need to know what kind of game you want to run here. Mature is fine. Adult is not. If you need an explanation of this, chances are you probably don't need to be running a game here, but just in case: Handle touchy subject matter, well, maturely. Portray your characters appropriately, and run things without being childish about it. Don't set out to offend your players. Offending the characters is prefectly fine, just be sure you as a Storyteller can tell the difference, and know how to handle the inevitable slip up with grace.

Next, I need to know what you require for the set up of your game. This includes a detailed summary of layout and dice rollers required to run things appropriately. For our own formatting, please look around the forum and see how we have things laid out. That is how we prefer them and will make navigating your game easier. You are not required to put an OOC board on your game as we already have a main General Chat one, but you may if you wish. My general chat is a forum that is open so players can create topics as they wish for seperate discussions of whatever. You may have a smaller set up if you desire.

For your dice I need to know how many you need and what side each one needs to be. As an example don't tell me you need 12 d10s. I need to know that you need: d10, d20, d12, d6, d4, etc... That way I can configure the dice roller for your game. Your dice roller will be named after your game, and the posts of the actual dice being rolled will be made by "Dice Master." This is a user I set up to prevent cheating. There is only one Dice Master, and this is it. In other words, I cannot add another one for your game.

Gallery stuff... Well its only natural that you want a gallery to host pictures. I can and will configure one. However I reserve the right to restrict file sizes, or require a donation to the game so we may increase our storage space before I do so (the latter is highly unlikely unless we are already at our limit and the extra gallery requires significant storage). Donations are disabled for the time being as we do not need them at the moment. However this will change in the future as we add different features, and inevitably exceed our allotment of free storage space. What happens when we do exceed that limit? Please see the post in this thread regarding donations for the details of that.

Moving on...

I will set up a group for your game and set the Storyteller as the owner of that group. Either a Moderator will be assigned to the group, or Jedi and myself will do it ourselves, will Moderate your group and game for the site. Beyond that, running the game is entirely up to you. After that is all done we'll move onto the layout of your game...
